Michael Bergemann, LPC-IT

he/him/his

Service Facilitator, Individual Skill Developer, & Psychotherapist

Michael is an LPC-IT with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Viterbo University and master’s degrees in both Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling from the University of Wisconsin–Superior. Before starting his career at FLYY, he dedicated twelve years to working in public education, nine of those as a middle school teacher in the Madison Metropolitan School District and three as an elementary school counselor in the Monona Grove School District. This experience deeply informs his work, grounding it in a deep understanding of school systems, child development, and the unique challenges that young people face both in and out of the classroom.

At the heart of Michael’s therapeutic approach is the belief that healing and growth happen in safe and trusting relationships with mutual respect. He works to create a space where clients feel seen, heard, and valued, which is an environment where laughter, curiosity, and authenticity are encouraged. Michael strives to meet each client as a whole, complex person and to honor their lived experiences, personal narratives, and unique identities.

Michael has significant experience supporting elementary and middle school-aged children, as well as Queer teens and young adults. He brings compassion, empathy, and a deep understanding to his work with LGBTQ+ clients and is committed to creating affirming spaces where clients can explore their identities without fear of judgment. As a member of the Queer community himself, he brings lived experience into his practice and is able to offer insight, affirmation, and resources to clients navigating their own journeys with gender and sexuality.

Although much of his work focuses on youth and Queer individuals, Michael enjoys working with clients of all ages and backgrounds. He has experience supporting clients who are displaying signs of anxiety, ADHD, and depression as well. His goal in every session is to collaborate with clients to foster resilience, encourage self-discovery, and support meaningful change—always with warmth, humor, and respect.
